In his book Landmarks Robert MacFarlane describes the idea of "word-hordes", caches of local vocabularies for describing landscape, light and weather. This collection can be thought of as an image equivalent. The photography here is part of a project of walking and looking that is by now an essential part of me. The images try to grasp particular aspects seen, found, felt or experienced while traversing land and landscapes on foot.
In differing ways these otherlandic landscape photographs speak of something beyond the ordinary. In my otherlandic vocabulary, images challenge the notion of 'common-place' with intuitions that light can unexpectedly reveal remarkable possibilities. There is a realisation that place can mean much more than physical location, and a belief in the possibility of glimpsing the extraordinary given sufficient patience and persistence.
